Good to Know
Traveling with a 1-Year-Old
This trip is intentionally loose with no rigid daily itinerary. Solana is a lap infant on all flights. All transfers require a car seat — this will be arranged with each private car booking. The flexible pacing is designed around traveling comfortably as a family.
Passports & Entry
US citizens do not need a visa for France or Italy for stays under 90 days. The EU's ETIAS travel authorization may be required starting 2026 — check travel-europe.europa.eu/etias closer to departure. Ensure all passports are valid for at least 6 months beyond May 12.
Currency & Payments
Both France and Italy use the Euro (€). Credit cards are widely accepted, but carry some cash for small vendors, taxis, and tips. Notify your bank of travel dates to avoid card blocks. Contactless payments are standard across Europe.
Power Adapters
France and Italy both use Type C/F plugs (round two-pin European standard). Bring a universal adapter or purchase one at any airport. Most hotels and Airbnbs have USB ports but don't rely on it.
Connectivity
Check if your mobile plans include European roaming. If not, consider an eSIM (Airalo or Holafly) for data across both countries. WiFi is available at most Airbnbs and restaurants.
Time Zone
Both France and Italy are in Central European Summer Time (CEST), UTC+2 during May. That's 6 hours ahead of New York (EDT) and 9 hours ahead of the West Coast (PDT). Expect 1–2 days for jet lag adjustment.
Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering medical emergencies, trip cancellation, and lost luggage — especially important when traveling with a young child. European healthcare is excellent but can be costly for visitors without insurance.
